Your Story Matters Here

The fact that you are here on this page tells me that you are longing for space for an intermission – a moment to pause, pay attention and process.

All of us come with a story. We are on a journey filled with experiences both uplifting and challenging. Here at intermission, your story matters. You matter.

Intermission is your invitation to just be, no matter where you are at. Intermission exists to offer you a safe space. A space to process what has happened. A space to pay attention and notice God’s presence. A space to for you to encounter and (re)connect with God.

Hello!

I’m Kurt and I come alongside missionaries, Christian workers and followers of Jesus, providing a safe place for an intermission. I do that through Spiritual Direction, Debriefing and Soul Care.
I want to see you in a place where you are fulfilling your God-given calling with the wholeness of being what God intends you to be. I want to see you live and minister in a healthy, sustainable and God-honoring way.

        More About Me

Why do I care so much?

Truth be said, I have seen too many good people burn out, too many people becoming numb and simply going through the motions.

I have spent years working in Member Care dealing with conflict, issues and situations that could have been prevented by paying attention to our soul.

I know that there are few places allowing us to simply be, without the need to justify or explain what we do. I have experienced and am experiencing the impact full-time intercultural ministry has on my children, my wife and me.

I have looked into the tear-filled eyes of tired and worn out missionaries listened to their painful stories in often challenging fields, baring their unanswered questions, doubts and wounds.

I have been asked the question, often in a whisper: Why? Most of all, I have experienced the transforming power of an encounter with God in the midst of circumstances! In short, I care because God cares!

But does God really care?

Well… Jesus came to

  • proclaim good news to the poor
  • bind up the brokenhearted
  • proclaim freedom for the captives
  • release the prisoners from darkness
  • proclaim the year of the LORD’s favor and the day of vengeance of our God
  • comfort all who mourn
  • provide for those who grieve

Jesus came to

  • exchange our ashes for a crown of beauty
  • our mourning for oil of joy
  • our despair for a garment of praise

Jesus came so we will be

  • oaks of righteousness
  • a planting of the LORD
  • the display of his splendor (Isaiah 61:1-3)

So, does God care about you?

What would you say?

What can you expect from my coming alongside you?

Most of all, you can expect a safe space for an intermission. This space might be a few moments through a moment of Soul Care. It can be an hour on a monthly basis for Spiritual Direction. Or, that safe space for your intermission can be a week for a Debriefing.

You can expect that your story matters to me. You come with a history and have a journey behind you – I honor and respect that.

You can expect that I am praying for you throughout your intermission. I am fully aware that I am neither healer nor all-knowing advice giver. That would be Jesus, not me.

My priority is to foster an atmosphere for an encounter with God.

You can expect that I will follow the trusted models and tools of my training and education.

What Others Say

"I have really started to see the fruit from spiritual direction. God has started to do something new in me and I feel like my relationship with Him is much deeper than it has ever been. The last year especially I felt very dry spiritually but slowly started to come out of that. I'm learning to take time to be in silence and solitude. A lot of these practices were really unheard of to me before we started spiritual direction together. Thanks, I really appreciate it."
